• The Southern Maryland peninsula offers a number of attractions for people of every pace. Solomon's Island offers a riverside boardwalk, numerous restaurants featuring local seafood, museums, and small shops.


The Dove, tallship

Historic St. Mary's City, Maryland's first capital, is only a few miles from Woodlawn. HSMC features a replica of the Dove, one of two tall ships that first settled Maryland in the 1600s, a replica of the first State House, and a museum. HSMC is currently putting the finishing touches on a replica of the old chapel. Few know that Maryland was the birthplace of religious freedom and tolerance in the colonies.


Historic Leonardtown

• Historic downtown Leonardtown, Maryland's oldest incorporated town, is a nice walk for a short drive. Leonardtown offers a number of quaint shops and fine dining opportunities. The recently completed Leonardtown Wharf is a must-see. Fresh produce stands dot the roadside as you drive north into Amish country. Point Lookout State Park

Point Lookout State Park,
just a few minutes south of Woodlawn, is on the southernmost tip of Maryland. The park grounds were once used by the Union as a prisoner of war camp during the Civil War. Point Lookout is now home to a number of recreational activities and offers ferry rides to Smith Island, Maryland's only inhabited island in the Chesapeake Bay.

• Woodlawn is a featured attraction along the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.
